Really Big Ice Cream

We only had $3 in the ashtray, and the smallest size was $2.25, so we got a large, and split it. First soft-serve of the year!

Dog paddling

C and Mom went for a paddle-boat ride, with Lulu. C was also planning some fishing. Lulu kept paddling and whining off the back of the boat. This went on for about 20 minutes until we couldn't stand it anymore, so C gave Lulu a little "help" getting off the back of the boat. Ooops, the pole went for a swim too. Oh well, we still haven't ever caught a fish. . .

K-girl got back from camp and is painting her closet so Dad can put the doors on it.

Strawberry Bike Ride

C: I found this piece of bait in the river that was my favorite kind of bait, and it had this really cool sinker, but when I climbed up the rock, I slipped, and they fell into a crack.

Dad: I told C that he should be careful about getting his new bike shorts wet, because the pad would get wet, and riding back would be very uncomfortable, but when he found the lure, all of my advice went out the window.

C: That's because there was no window, Dad.

Mom: How was the bike ride?

C: Pretty good. Where were we?

Dad: We were at the east end of the Sugar Pine rail trail, off of old-strawberry road. We rode 6 1/2 miles round trip. The rail trail had a flume along the river.

K-Girl

Hear ye! Hear ye!

Let it be known, that from this day forward, "K" wishes to be known as "K-Girl".

Harry Potter Trip Photos

Harry Potter and all That

We are behind, haven't posted in over a week, so Mom is going to do a quick update, with input from K & C.

We went to Santa Cruz for the Harry Potter release.

Why Santa Cruz?

Why not?

Since the kids only just discovered Harry Potter this year, it was their last chance to really enjoy the hype. Our local bookstore is very small, and Bookshop Santa Cruz is the bookstore I grew up with. Plus, Grandma bought the books. (Thanks Mom!)

We spent the day riding our bikes all around Santa Cruz. We rode close to 20 miles. The kids did great. Grandma brought her dogs, they did great too. Lulu had to be left at Grandmas, because she doesn't fit in the basket on the bike.

We had a nice beach party with old playgroup friends, then at 10 we left to go to the party at the bookstore. It was very crowded. Have-to-hold-on-to-each-other-or-we'll-get-lost crowded.

After the kids went around and got all the free candy, they were ready to go home. Dad had been enjoying the peace and quiet of the line, so at 11:00 we joined him for a bit, then Grandma took them home and Dad and I waited until midnight when the book was released. We were back to Grandma's by 12:15, and I was positive C would be awake waiting for us, but I lost the $20 bet.

They both started reading the next morning, and C was finished by Sunday afternoon (he didn't read much Sunday, I think he was mentally processing the heavy trauma that occurs in the book). He was very excited to read the epilogue, and wasn't even grossed out by the coupling that occurs. But, we don't want to give it away. K is still reading, but is happy to hear her brother tell her what happens. Then, she went and read the last couple of pages. But, she continues to read to see how it gets there.

Cool Pool

K: When my frends came over we played on the big air matteress in my pool. Then we decided that we could flip it over and we saw that it was so slippery that we jumped off the ladder and did slip n slides. Also, when we did it on the other side, we used it as a gigantic trampoline.

Today C left to his friend's house for a sleepover, so my two friends get to have a slumber party at my house! We are going to play in the pool until we get wrinkly and we are going to pull each other around in the wagon, and we are going to go on the zipline, and we're going to play on the climbing tree, and probably play in my room. Lunch

C: Dad made pancakes for lunch. They were good.

Just Sunday

Mom: When I woke up this morning, I went outside, and there was K painting the table for her Lego house. She did an excellent job, but I must say, the stuff is still out in the driveway. . .

C: It was funny because I was rubbing the violin bow on the cat and pretending to make it meow. And then mom did it, and dad took a picture. And that is the end.

Fish & Ice Cream

C: We went to the trout farm and Sonny Boy, Pretty Girl, me and K (well, I don't think K caught anything), and mom, caught trout. The ice cream was really boring to crank.

Sonny Boy: I thought it was really fun to crank. Why did you say it was boring to crank?

K: We went to the trout farm. I did not catch any fish. Pretty Girl caught three fish.

Sonny Boy: All of the fish kept stealing my bait.

K: We made the ice cream. It was very fun cranking it because it changed everytime I had a different turn.
